MARIA ZURBA

Maria Leena Zurba (Sirkkunen) was born on May 29, 1945 in Vastermo, Sweden. She passed away at
St. Joseph's Hospital on December 20, 2022 with her husband John and her sons Shawn and Michael by her side.
Her family immigrated to Canada in 1951 and her father purchased a one bedroom home (with no electricity or
running water) on 5 acres of land behind an area locally known as the Bluffs. During this time, she became life long friends with Marlene and Vicki.
At age 15, she and Marlene attended Confirmation classes at the Finnish Independent Evangelical Lutheran
Church on Secord Street and they were confirmed on March 26, 1961.
She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church since January 1980 and a choir member for over 20 years.
From 1993 to 2019 Maria travelled, explored and vacationed in the Yukon , Hawaii, California, Florida, Puerto
Vallarta and many other destinations.
She loved to paint landscapes and animal portraits. Her favourite author was Stephen King and she owned
every book he has written.
Maria was predeceased by her mother Olga, father Antii, sister Impi and brother Jake.
Her memory will be cherished in the hearts of friends and family.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 575 Central Avenue, Thunder Bay.
