Obituary for Mrs. Doris Marshall (Keene)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of Doris Eveline Marshall (nee Keene) on
September 9, 2022 at the age of 103.

Born in Alfredton, Derbyshire U.K. in 1919, she emigrated with her parents, Alfred “Ernie” and Evaline “Eva” Keene to Canada as a baby settling in Sutherland, Saskatchewan. After receiving her Registered Nursing Degree from Saskatoon City Hospital, she spent many years working there as an operating room nurse. She met a young soldier named John Marshall at a dance in Dundurn and they were married in 1941. After her husband returned from 4 years overseas with the army, the two lived in Sutherland, Estavan, Flin Flon, where their son Kenneth was born, Portage La Prairie then back to Sutherland where daughter Brenda was born in Saskatoon. They eventually settled in Fort William in 1955. Doris worked at McKellar General Hospital Recovery Room on a casual basis until 1970 when her and John moved to White Rock, BC returning once again to Thunder Bay in 1994 to be closer to family.

She had so much love for her family. She especially loved her two grandchildren and would drive from
White Rock on her own to pick them up for their summer vacation at the ocean and as young teens took
them to England. How my parents survived that, I'll never know but great memories were made.

She is survived by daughter Brenda Godfrey (Bob Hammond), grandson Christopher and niece Lynnda (John Schaftari) plus other relatives in England and Canada.

Doris was predeceased by her loving husband John; son and daughter-in-law Kenneth and Charmaine; granddaugter Shannon; sister and brother-in-law Joyce and Walter Beaton and Brother Lawrence Keene.

We grieve her loss but are thankful for the many years we've had her in our lives. How fortunate we are
for all the funny stories, knitted mitts and hats, homemade bread, hugs and love we received from her.

We would also like to thank the staff of Sister Leila Greco and Hogarth Riverview Manor for the care they have given Doris over the years.

Private service will be held. Arrangements have been entrusted to the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 Gore Street West at James.

In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
