Obituary for Mr. Torsti Antero Hynna

TORSTI HYNNA
May 16, 1933 – July 23, 2021

Mr. Torsti Antero Hynna, age 88 years, passed away peacefully in Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on Friday, July 23, 2021.

Torsti was born on May 16, 1933 in Port Arthur and grew up in Lappe where he went to grade school and attended Lappe Lutheran Church.

He ran machinery from a very young age, and could repair anything that could possibly run, and he did this with such patience. As well as being a great mechanic, he would remind everyone that he also drove transport in all conditions in his early years. Most of his life was spent in the bush cutting trees and skidding.

Torsti loved the outdoors, blueberry picking, fishing and hunting. He especially loved his camp at Howcum Lake, and was fortunate enough to live his retirement years there, enjoying country living.

Torsti is survived by his loving wife Nelly (nee Kuronen); daughters Taina (Mike) and Taimi (Doug); grandchildren Michael, Anthony (Danielle), and Lucas; and great-grandchild Kiara; sisters Lea and Martta (Bill); brother George (Martha); sister-in-law Marie and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives throughout Canada, Finland and the USA.

Torsti was predeceased by his beloved son, Markku; his parents Selma (nee Lamppu) and Ilmari Hynna; brothers Eino and Kaarlo (Pirkko); uncle Arvo Lamppu; brother-in-law Peter, and other relatives.

Funeral services for the late Mr. Torsti Hynna will be held on Monday August 2, 2021 at 11:00 am in Hilldale Lutheran Church with Pastors Jari Lahtinen and Neil Otke officiating. Interment will follow in Lappe Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday afternoon from 3:00 until 5:00pm in the EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley St. at Algoma.

Funeral services will be live streamed on the Hilldale Church Youtube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxLVvv7iY4EtL6LPgkT5A1w/videos

COVID-19 Protective measures are still being applied in group settings. Masks or face coverings and maintaining social distancing of 6 feet are both mandatory for those attending the services.
